Most Recent Update:
COVID-19 Response and Faith UMC
March 13, 2020
At this time, we are inviting everyone to join us for worship each Sunday morning at 10:00 AM online by coming to our webpage or going to our Facebook page for the link. We will be worshiping this way indefinitely until the time comes when we can gather again physically as the Body of Christ. The good news is that we are finding ways, as we are with worship, to love our neighbor and one another from a distance. It may mean that the church building is closed for the time being, but the Church is still alive and well as we seek new ways to be the heart of Christ in our world today.
Some of our small groups, as well as our Children's ministry, Youth ministry, and Faith Kids Pre-school are finding ways to still be in ministry online. In fact, we are continually looking at new ways to expand ministry. Daily devotionals are being provided on both our website and our Faith UMC Spring Facebook page. Throughout time, we may be sharing video devotionals, lessons or messages to pass along.
As we navigate through this time in a new way, please remember that we are still needing your support along the way as the staff is continuing to find ways to minister to our Faith community and beyond. It is more imperative now than ever before that everyone sets up online giving, either through our website or through your bank with bank drafts being sent to the church. Here is the link to set up your online giving: Online Giving for Faith UMC
Please live into what I said earlier... the church building is closed for the time being, but the Church is still alive and well! May the heart of Christ be advanced in new and even more bold ways as we share the love and hope of Christ with the world around us!
Peace and love,

Dear Faith community,
Please take a moment to read those words again…Dear Faith community.
That really is who we are. We are a faith community that goes beyond the walls of our church. We are committed to the greater community around us as we live into that time and time again. When we say we care for one another, that doesn’t simply mean those of us within the walls of a church. We care about one another as we live out our call to love our neighbor.
With everything happening all around us due to the threat of the coronavirus, we are taking measures that are being suggested to immediately limit gatherings at Faith. As of today, all events at Faith UMC will be canceled for the next week. We know this could be extended beyond Sunday as we continually monitor the situation around us.
Beginning on Monday, we will be posting on our Facebook pages and on our website a daily devotional, along with scripture readings, to keep us more full of faith versus allowing anxiety to get the better of us. It will be important for each and every one of us to take care of ourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually than ever before.
Regarding tithes and offerings, we would also recommend that if you have not set up your regular giving online or automatic withdrawal with your banking establishment, now would be a good time to do that. It is your tithes and offerings that help to support the Faith UMC church and community in all of our missions and ministries. Here is the link to our website for giving: https://faithumcspring.org/giving
As changes and updates are made, we will make sure to get word out to you via @Faith email and Facebook. And if you haven’t gotten on our Facebook page, I would suggest to get on both our Public and Private pages. The Public one is Faith United Methodist Church of Spring. The link to the Private page is here. The “Private” one that requires us to accept your request is Faith UMC Spring. The difference is the “Private” one allows us to publish personal information that stays within our Faith community.
Finally, as I said earlier, these are anxious times. And yet, time and time again in scripture we hear God say “Be Not Afraid”. Those words were given throughout scripture at times when people could have been filled with fear and anxiety. I believe God is saying those words to us over and over again. Carry these words with you today: “I give you peace, the kind of peace only I can give. It isn’t like the peace this world can give. So don’t be worried or afraid.” (John 14:27)
I hope to see many of you, or should I say I hope many of you see us online on Sunday morning.

To our Faith community,
I know that many of us have never experienced what is playing out throughout the world in regard to the coronavirus. Even as I wrote this up yesterday evening, the NBA season has been suspended and March Madness will be played without fans in the stands. Local events, such as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, have also been cancelled. With so much happening, we would like to address events at Faith, including worship.
At this time, our Sunday morning schedule will happen as scheduled. However, there will be steps taken to help give worshippers peace of mind. We will not be Passing the Peace during the worship service. Also, as we have people at our doors before and after worship, we will be there to greet you with words of welcome and love without extending hands.
At the time of our Offering, plates will not be passed but will be placed at the entrances/exits of the sanctuary for you to place your offering. We would also recommend that if you have not set up your regular giving online or automatic withdraw with your banking establishment, now would be a good time to do that. Here is the link to our website.
When Communion is celebrated in the weeks ahead, we will be eliminating the chalices for intinction as we did this month and will continue to use the trays with individual cups. Even after this is over, we will move towards once again giving the option of the chalice or the individual cups.
Regarding the BBQ being made available this Sunday, all meals will be placed in to-go containers, rather than having people serve themselves. Feel free to either find a place at a table and eat with us at Faith, or take it home.
Throughout Sunday morning, we will be offering coffee and tea, as usual, but cookies and pastries will not be available until the threat passes.
Finally, regarding Faith Kids Preschool, they will follow and abide by the decisions of Conroe ISD.
As is being communicated to people globally, please remember the basics, including washing your hands thoroughly, staying home if you have a fever or a cough, and avoid bringing your hands up to your face. We will have hand sanitizers readily available throughout our church facilities. We also are taking steps at Faith to make sure everything is cleaned and sanitized well for Sunday morning, as well as wiping down door handles throughout the morning.
In the meantime, remember these words of Paul from 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-discipline.” May we exercise all that God has given us as we seek to be the body and witness that God is calling us to be. And pray for all!
